London Heathrow : Opening of Terminal 5

After five and a half years of construction work, Terminal 5 is due to open on Thursday, March 27, 2008. Terminal 5 will be able to handle 30 million additional passengers a year making London Heathrow the busiest airport in the world in 2009. The opening will change the airlines allocation - To check for new allocations per terminal please visit > London Heathrow airlines (when Terminal 5's satellite pier 3 (T5C) is completed in 2010, all British Airways flights will operate from Terminal 5). Many of the 60 aircraft stands will be able to handle the brand new Airbus A380.

Facilities & passengers services at Heathrow T5 (New terminal to open)

Terminal 5 consists of three buildings – the main hall plus two satellites : 5B and 5C - That are linked by an automated transit system. The automated Track Transit System (TTS) is an underground train that goes every 1.5 minutes and takes only 45 seconds. The terminal will also feature an 87m control tower and the UK’s largest single-span waveform roof. We have listed passengers services including airport connections (Express train, airport bus, car hire and taxis or shuttle), restaurants, bars and pubs, shopping facilities, lounges.

Heathrow Express : Journey time between central London and Terminal 5 will take 20 minutes. T5 will become the new terminus - As of 2007, it costs around £15.50 for a single journey in standard class and around £24.50 for first class.

London Underground - Piccadilly Line :  It is the cheapest way to get from London to Heathrow Terminal 5 - Count less than one hour to connect airport to city center. A single Tube fare to central London from Terminal 5 will cost £4.

RailAir : Coach + Train : Purchase a combined coach and train ticket to be able to pick up one of RailAir’s luxury buses or coaches to Woking, Watford and Reading train stations from the Terminal 5 bus station on Ground Level Arrivals.

Bus - Coach service : National Express and Oxford Airline coaches connect with a large number of destinations including of course Central London. Just across the Interchange Plaza from the terminal building, you’ll find frequent buses and coaches connecting with many towns and cities across the UK.

Taxi services : You can hail a taxi on Ground Level Arrivals, opposite the main terminal building. The journey to Central London should cost from 45£ to 75£ depending on road traffic conditions (Metered fare to downtown London).
